From the Desk of President Troy Graland,

We had the pleasure of hosting an Open House at our Masonry Development Center with the California Training Workforce Initiative (CTWI) on September 24th. There were four representatives from CTWI and nearly thirty students who enjoyed the opportunity of working with BAC Instructors and Staff. Tim Robertson, Executive Director of the San Joaquin Building Trades also attended. Students were able to try their hands at laying Brick, Tile and Masonry repointing. CTWI is a nonprofit partner of the East Bay Building Trades and oversees numerous MC-3 programs including Richmond Build Academy, Future Build, Rising Sun Center for Opportunity and the Cypress Mandela Training Center. These Multi Craft Core (MC3) programs offer technical training for multiple building and construction trades. Job readiness training is offered with certifications such as OSHA and First Aid. They also offer job placement support for up to a year after graduation and financial assistance may be available for eligible participants and programs.

Workforce Agreements, also known as Project Labor Agreements (PLA) and Community Workforce Agreements (CWA), are pre-hire collective bargaining agreements that detail labor management relations in the workplace. There are several benefits for contractors working under these agreements, which includes access to students who have completed an MC-3 program. CTWI is uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between organized labor and key stakeholders. BAC Local 3 and all the Building Trades benefit from these programs as all the trades continue to replace our retiring membership with the best candidates for our apprenticeship training programs.
